This century‑old heritage building in Wellington’s CBD underwent a major seismic upgrade to meet New Zealand’s current New Building Standard. As part of the wider refurbishment, the main contractor removed the existing roof and reinstated all building services. Strengthening works focused on reinforcing the original brick chimneys with long, high‑tensile bars designed to engage only during an earthquake, improving safety while preserving the building’s historic character.
